Process Collaboration Platform PROWIT

The potential of new telecommunication technologies for a better planning, implementation and execution of business processes is not investigated in detail up to today, because these technologies are in general not integrated into business processes.

In the research project PROWIT, various communication and cooperation technologies, especially typical web 2.0 applications shall be integrated in order to build ubiquitous telecommunication services around business processes.

IMC is research partner in PROWIT. IMC is responsible for the development of a so-called “process collaboration platform” which will be a learning and knowledge community around business processes providing a large number of single, widget based services to help employees to communicate and share knowledge within the execution of business process. Employees that work together for instance within customer relationship management processes shall be enabled to better and easier collaborate using the process collaboration platform and services.

Project partners of IMC are the DFKI Saarbrücken, IDS Scheer AG and Technical University Darmstadt. Prototype developments will be evaluated in industrial test beds such as Kaeser Kompressoren from Coburg and Hitachi.

The project started in 2009. It is scheduled until 2012. It runs in two phases: Objective of the first phase is to develop basic functionality of the process collaboration platform and services. In the second project phase, the functionality shall be enhanced and evaluated in detail.

The project will create a new form of learning and knowledge exchange within running business processes using telecommunication technology. The results will be used to further develop knowledge and learning technology and align these technologies with business.
